Why would it ask for my location?
The app will now and again ask for your location from amy source it can find,

It does this so you dont have to. If you want to set your location for there is a set now button.

Where is Daimoku Time?
All Daimoku is stored corrected back to UTC/GMT+0 no matter where you are in Real Time.
Your current location is an offset to this.
This time takes into account any Day Light Saving/Summer Time off sets. Which means the ceremony in the air, transcends both space and time,
it is just 'now' where ever you are. This is stored in the time server at Eagle Peak.
You join in with Daimoku with others in a different time zone you would need to chant when they do.
You can see them joining your daimoku.
Equally you can join later and keep the Daimoku going taking over from them during this Tozo/Toso.
We make ever second count so getting the exact time for any time zone is a big deal.

Daimoku Speed
People all chant at different speed, at one end it might be 35 ‘Nam Myoho Renge Kyo’s in a minute,
just speaking it now, took one second, so 60 in a minute, so at that rate each hour would equate to 3600 Daimoku.
However some people can chant at 110 Daimoku per minute (not me thats for sure) so 6600 per hour.
Some might argue about enunciation and are you actually saying ‘Nam Myoho Renge Kyo’
or squashing together so you can super fast is ok because its the intent behind the Daimoku that matters.
It’s your Daimoku, your choose. The speed setting does matter is the energy of the collective Daimoku
on CFoD as a whole, otherwise its just between you and your gohonzon.

What is the "Are You Still There" message?
When you start the timer It will assume that you are doing a normal morning or evening Gongyo which is normally less than 60mins.
It will display a message much like "You must have stepped away so we turned off your daimoku stream @ {hh:mm}.
Let us know when you are ready to start chanting again"
At this message it will have assumed you have stopped and will take a snap-shop of your Daimoku recording it.
If you press the continue button the time will continue (for another 60mins) and the total time will added, so no daimoku is lost.
If you never press the continue button [I’M STILL CHANTING] or close the window, the time that it was triggered, is the point when the daimoku ended.
When might this happen?
Daimoku Marathons - One or more people chanting for a cause possible upto 3 hours. Such determination brings big results.
Daimoku Brunch - One or more people chanting for a cause, but with buffet food (cooked breakfast or soups)
where there is always someone chanting infront of the Gohonzon, and people take turns going to the kitchen to have a meal.
Caution: All too often people prefer to chat in the kitchen next to the food, and the person infront of the Gohonzon is forgotten.
Dont forget what you are there for. It is not a party the power & efficacy is the number of people of one mind in front of the Gohonzon not the number in the kitchen eating cake.

Cafe/Cocktail Deafness
This is not actual Deafness in the sense of a loss of hearing, as people with this condition have a hearing tests just as good as teenagers.
This condition is based on continuous development of the brains function in 'hearing' from a baby to old age, sadly it does not stop when the system is fully developed (tho of course this is a good thing in the case of cochlear ear implants).
The net effect is that in an environment of many people talking (chanting) you cannot "tune into" a single voice and "tune out" all others, which makes it hard to concentrate (hence why so many people use ear-phones in a open plan office to concentrate).
This means that when doing Gongyo in a group hearing someone else doing a different gongyo to you will trip you up.

There are other times where, where you were 'tripped up' and you have to jump ahead to where they are now. Its up to you where these anchors are to resynchronize to, the obvious ones are the start of each chapter,
then the repeated sections such as 'Nyo ze..',or 'hoben chicken'.

Nichiren
Nichiren (16 February 1222 - 13 October 1282), born as Zennichimaro, was
a Japanese Buddhist priest who lived during the Kamakura period (1185 -
1333). Nichiren is known for his sole devotion to the Lotus Sutra, asserting
that it was Shakyamuni Buddha's ultimate teachings and was the exclusive
method to attain enlightenment. Nichiren believed that the Lotus Sutra contained
the essence of all of Shakyamuni Buddha's teachings related to the laws
of causality, karma, without any distinction to enlightenment. His interpretation
of the Lotus Sutra centers on the emphasis of its 16th chapter, The Life
Span of the Thus Come One, where he grounds his revelation that the chanting
of Nam Myoho Renge Kyo is the superior practice of Mappo or today's age.

Nichiren Buddhism
Nichiren Buddhism is a Japanese Buddhist movement in the Mahayana tradition.
It is also popular in the West and has a fast growing membership in the
UK.
Nichiren Buddhism differs from other schools of Buddhism in focusing on
this world, and in its view that it is the only correct tradition. It also
emphasizes the importance of individuals taking responsibility for improving
themselves.
Although it can be seen as a highly self-focused religion, followers of
Nichiren Buddhism believe that individual empowerment and inner transformation
contribute, in turn, to a better and more peaceful world.

What is Daimoku
Chanting
Nam Myoho Renge Kyo
Nam comes from the Sanskrit namas, meaning to devote or dedicate oneself.
Myo can be translated as mystic or wonderful, and ho means law.
This law is called mystic because it is difficult to comprehend. What exactly makes it difficult to comprehend? It is the wonder of ordinary people, beset by delusion and suffering, awakening to the fundamental law in their own lives and realizing that they are inherently Buddhas able to solve their own problems and those of others.
Renge means lotus blossom.
The lotus flower is pure and fragrant, unsullied by the muddy water in which it grows. Similarly, the beauty and dignity of our humanity is brought forth amidst the sufferings of daily reality.
Further, unlike other plants, the lotus puts forth flowers and fruit at the same time. This illustrates the principle of the simultaneity of cause and effect; we do not have to wait to become someone perfect in the future, we can bring forth the power of the Mystic Law from within our lives at any time.
Kyo literally means sutra and here indicates the Mystic Law likened to a lotus flower, the fundamental law that permeates life and the universe, the eternal truth.

What is Kosen Rufu?
“For the members of the SGI, kosen-rufu means

It feels impossible for one person to awaken ALL people to their limitless worth and potential,
but you can influence the people around you, one person at a time.
This is part of a Buddhists vow they made countless life times ago (see Bodhisattva),
they promised that they would not enter nivana until every one else could (this varies between all the buddhist traditions).
So we chant for World Wide Kosen-Rufu.

What is Human Revolution?
As part of our practise, we focus on Human Revolution/Evolution which is about transforming ourselves and our circumstances.
In his writing On Attaining Buddhahood, Nichiren Daishonin conveys the basic spirit of Human Revolution: "You must never think that any of the eighty thousand sacred teachings of Shakyamuni's lifetime or any of the Buddhas and bodhisattvas of the ten directions and three existences are outside yourself. Your practice of the Buddhist teachings will not relieve you of the sufferings of birth and death in the least unless you perceive the true nature of your own life."
We could summarise the spirit of this teaching as being, "It's not up to others; nor can I blame anyone else. I have to change myself first." It is a viewpoint that says, everything in life is part of our own training; it is for our benefit and development. Human Revolution takes place right now, in the situation we find ourselves at this moment.
World peace starts with this inner transformation of the individual. And yes it is a struggle to develop and elevate our state of life but Human Revolution is the foundation for world peace and also for individual peace and happiness. It is at the heart of our Buddhist practice. It is about changing our heart and drawing out our humanity.

What is Sansho Shima
- San Sho Shi Ma or Negativity aka The Three Obstacles and Four Devils.
Our lives seem to contain an innate resistance to change that is at least as strong as our desire to improve ourselves.
In Buddhism, such resistance is characterized as "obstacles" and "devilish functions," which are a natural part of the dynamic workings of our lives.
These seem to manifest as equal and opposing forces to "attaining Buddhahood" and our Human Revolution. As hard as we try to make good happen, something will get in the way to stop us.
The harder we try the bigger the obstructions - this can be disheartening, but it also foretells of a great victory, it is a clue that you are on the right track.

Daimoku
Daimoku, the “title” of the sutra; Nichiren instituted the devotional practice of chanting the phrase “Nam myōhō renge kyō" (“I devote myself to the Lotus Sutra of the Wonderful Law”) is the practice of chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo.
Nichiren taught that the historical Buddha was identical with the original, eternal Buddha and that, inasmuch as all human beings partake of the Buddha-nature, all human beings are manifestations of the eternal. He devised three ways of expressing this concept, known as the sandai-hihō (“three great secret laws [or mysteries]”). The first, the honzon, is the chief object of worship in Nichiren temples and is a ritual drawing showing the name of the Lotus Sutra surrounded by the names of divinities mentioned in the sutra (discourse of the Buddha). The second great mystery is the daimoku, the “title” of the sutra; Nichiren instituted the devotional practice of chanting the phrase “Namu myōhō renge kyō" (“I devote myself to the Lotus Sutra of the Wonderful Law”). The third mystery relates to the kaidan, or place of ordination, which is sacred and belongs to the “Lotus of the Good Law.”

This Gohonzon is the essence of the Lotus Sutra and the eye of all the scriptures. It is like the sun and the moon in the heavens, a great ruler on earth, the heart in a human being, the wish-granting jewel among treasures, and the pillar of a house.
When we have this mandala with us, it is a rule that all the Buddhas and gods will gather round and watch over us, protecting us like a shadow day and night, just as warriors guard their ruler, as parents love their children, as fish rely on water, as trees and grasses crave rain, and as birds depend on trees. You must trust in it with all your heart.

Ichinen
Is usually used to indicate your unstoppable determination endowed with the wisdom of the Buddha.
Each person’s life contains infinite potential; this is the core belief of Nichiren Buddhism. While it may be easy to accept this in a theoretical sense, in reality we tend to impose limits on our possibilities. To a large extent we define our lives in terms of these perceived or unconscious limitations—I am able to do this but not that.
Buddhist practice enables us to draw on inexhaustible inner reserves of courage, hope and resilience to surmount challenges and expand our lives and to help others do the same. ‘Buddhahood’ describes this dynamic, compassionate life condition, and a Buddha is someone who has firmly established this condition as their predominant reality. Most people, however, are unaware of this possibility or how to actualize it.
The renowned sixth-century Buddhist scholar T’ien-t’ai (538–97) developed a meditative practice to enable people to perceive the boundless extent of their lives at each moment. He also developed a theoretical system to describe this reality. He called this “three thousand realms in a single moment of life” (Jpn. ichinen sanzen). Ichinen sanzen demonstrates that the entire phenomenal world exists in a single moment of life.
What T’ien-t’ai’s theory does is explain how we humans construct our experience of life moment by moment.

Countless lifetimes
This is code for never. In some traditions, born as a woman you can never reach enlightenment.
After that you need to wait a long time, typically 4,320,000 human years; kalpas(the time it takes to gring the planet earth to dust) is another term for close to eternity.
This is how Nichiren Buddhism (and thus that of Shakyamuni in his last sutra) different from many other forms of Buddhism
- just as Buddha Shakyamuni achieved Buddahood in this one lifetime, so can the rest of us.
Every living being has the potential to become a Buddha.
One possible difference is the level of buddhahood, in the Meditation Traditions (which I respect)
buddha is floating on cloud in the air and this not human and out of reach - its always in the next lifetime NEVER this one.
Whereas Nichiren Buddhism sets the bar a little lower. So as an ORDINARY human being,
we all have potential Buddhahood with in us, we just need to reveal it.
We refer to 'Polishing the mirror' when chanting Daimoku, which is keeping in touch with that buddhahood.

“If you make offerings to the priest who preaches the Lotus Sutra and hear its teachings

1,000 + 100 + 100 = 1,200 divine years (= 432,000 human years) = 1 Kali Yuga.
12,000 divine year = 4 Yugas
(= 4,320,000 human years) = 1 Mah?-Yuga

The Strategy of the Lotus Sutra
In a Nutshell, this means if there is a problem challenge that we face,
we need to always chant about it first before we take action.
This is contrary to how we are normally taught to address problems using classic problem solving techniques.
As previously mentioned this practice transcends both space and time.
So you chant from a position of victory and expressing gratitude for that victor - not pleading for a victory.
It is said that when you are chanting daimoku you are connected to your Buddha-nature, and your Buddha-wisdom is revealed.
The Mystic Law is the ultimate Law of the life and the entire universe.
For this reason, when one’s life is connected to the Mystic Law through one’s profound faith,
the immense potential and power that exist in the depths of one’s life is unleashed.
So with this CFOD app, we could have a 'Task', 'Goals' or 'Determinations' section,
which might be seen as a To-Do list, which is not how this practice works;
the Mystic Law will figure out the best way to get you what you want.

To awaken to life’s eternity
Enlightenment is not simply a matter of recognition or awareness of eternal life. This is very important. The eternity of life is not something to be recognized intellectually; it is something that we have to experience with our own lives. And only if we practice a correct teaching can we do so.
The difficulty is that even if one consciously makes an effort to become aware of the eternity of life, ultimately it is life that supports the self that is trying to achieve this awareness. One cannot comprehend what is large with what is small; a wave cannot comprehend the ocean over whose surface it passes. What, then, are we to do?

Spirituality: Mind, Body and Spirit
Post-Life - this is all very fuffy in Buddhism - I take the view I will find out about 'Heaven' when I get there.
In some schools of Buddhism, Bardo or antarābhava is an intermediate, transitional, or liminal state between death and rebirth, no more that 45 days. The concept arose soon after Gautama Buddha's death, with a number of earlier Buddhist schools accepting the existence of such an intermediate state, while other schools rejected it.
Spirituality is important to me, and here there is a difference between Chanting and Meditation.
Meditation is a faster route to your Higher self, to your Buddha-self and our human evolution (Mind-Sprit).
Chanting activates your Buddha-nature and gets things in the material world (Mind-Body)

Spiritual Independence
Its fair to say that the SGI had a rocky relationship with priesthood.
The priesthood lost sight of their noble mission of kosen-rufu which is at the core of the
Soka Gakkai and focused on fabricating dogma became a means for them to maintain their status.
We gained our spiritual independence from the Nikken sect on November 28, 1991 when Excommunicated by the Priesthood.
Where the priesthood felt they had the power to excommunicate us from our buddha-nature and the universe itself.
For SGI members around the world, this day is celebrated as a Day of Spiritual Independence and is considered a decisive turning point that liberated the SGI
community from the narrow, parochial control of the authoritarian priesthood.
Since then, the Soka Gakkai has progressed continually, expanding its presence to 192 countries and territories,
thus spreading its wings throughout the world of Global Citizenship.
What this means is that the whole of the Soka Gakkai is in each member,
you dont need a priest to confer faith upon you, you dont need to pay for blessing as you have ALL the tools you need - Your Gonhonzon and the practice.
You dont need a priest to grant you your buddha-nature, as revealed in the Juryo Chapters of the Lotus Sutra,
Shakyamuni already enlightened in the lives of the distant past, not just him as an ordinary human, but this exists in all humans, it just needs to be awakened.
The mystic law is the fundamental principle underlying the universe and life- precisely what Professor Toynbee refereed to as "Ultimate Spritual Reality"
